TEKS UCAPAN Y.A.B. TAN SRI DATUK SERI PANGLIMA MUSA HAJI AMAN SEMPENA 41ST INSTALLATION AND OATH TAKING CEREMONY OF SABAH UNITED CHINESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (SUCCC) COMMITTEE MEMBERS PADA 28 SEPTEMBER 2017, DI PORT VIEW PALACE HALL

DEWAN HAKKA TANJUNG LIPAT, KOTA KINABALU.

The Sabah Government is always supportive of community based associations as these groupings represent the voices and aspirations of all layers of society. Let me assure you that no group is left behind from receiving aid or assistance from the Government.

It is also the aspiration of the Government to ensure that it continues to pay attention to issues faced by the people, such as those related to the economy, education and welfare. This is something that the people appreciate and continues to be our focus.

We acknowledge the importance of education and for this reason the Government allocates large funds to strengthen education in Sabah. Between 2004 and 2017, we have allocated RM333.99 million to vernacular schools, mission schools and non-Islamic religious bodies.

We have also allocated millions in response to requests from NGOs from all over the state to support their programmes and activities. These include chambers of commerce, women organisations, charitable bodies, environmental organisations and cultural associations.

I wish to see more cooperation between Bumiputera and Chinese entrepreneurs in Sabah, especially in areas related to business management. While cooperation already exists, it is my hope that it is further expanded and enhanced.

I take this opportunity to call on associations and NGOs in Sabah to continue working closely with the Government. Such cooperation will allow the Government to better plan effective development and progress related programmes for the benefit of the State and its people.

I just came back from a 3 days working visit in Beijing. Though the trip was short, it was a fruitful one because I managed to meet with a number of top ranking China's multi national corporations or stare owned enterprises, some of these multi billion dollar conglomerates business are multifaceted, specialising in building, highway  and airport construction, finance, energy and hospitality while others are more specialized in tourism and dam & hydropower construction.

During one of the meetings, I met the Chairman of the largest tourism travel national corporation, that handles some 6 million Chinese tourists traveling throughout the world. She asked me how many Chinese tourists come to Sabah. I told her last year about 375, 000 visited us last year. She said, I will more than double that and bring 1 million Chinese tourists to Sabah. I said thank you, they are most welcomed but we need to build more hotels first.

The building of more hotels and resorts is something the State Government is aggressively pushing for to accommodate the rising numbers of tourists visiting our state. Once more tourist infrastructure is built, more tourists will come, creating economic spinoffs in terms of businesses for support industries.

Sekian, terima kasih.
