SPEECH BY Y.A.B. DATUK HJ MUSA HJ AMAN, CHIEF MINISTER OF SABAH AT THE UNVEILING OF THE NEGARAKU LIVERY ON MASWINGS ATR AIRCRAFT, ON 29TH AUGUST 2017, AT ENGINEERING HANGAR, KKIA, KOTA KINABALU
I wish to thank the management of MASwings headed by its Chief Executive Officer, Encik Aminuddin Zakaria for inviting me to be part of this morning’s event. As an airline operating in Sabah, we are always supportive of the efforts that MASwings makes to both improve air connectivity and to further unite Malaysians, including through the Negaraku Livery.
I have been made to understand the unveiling of the Negaraku Livery on a MASwings ATR aircraft is part of an initiative by MASwings to show solidarity to our beloved country, Malaysia, in celebration of the coming Merdeka Day. This is in the steps of Malaysia Airlines Berhad’s effort to have the Negaraku Livery painted on one of its Boeing 738, that was officially launched by our Prime Minister last month in Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
From your humble start, MASwings has grown to become a household name in both Sabah and Sarawak. You connect smaller towns in both states, facilitating air travel for those who need to go from one place to another quickly. The presence of MASwings also boosts businesses, tourism and other sectors of the economy that depend on reliable and safe air connectivity. In October this year, you will turn 10, celebrating a decade of connecting communities in Sabah and Sarawak.
Having been in operation for almost a decade, I trust MASwings now has the experience it needs to take its operations to the next level. You have what it takes to offer more and with a strong management team, I am sure that we will soon see MASwings take greater strides.
MASwings has been aggressively promoting its products and services throughout Sabah and Sarawak despite the difficulties and challenges you have faced both in terms of commercial and operational considerations. Despite some setbacks, you have shown to be committed in delivering safe and reliable air transportation. On our part, the Sabah State Government will continue to ensure that we will be able to better facilitate air travel requirements in consultation with the related authorities.
Today marks another milestone for MASwings, the airline for the people of Sabah and Sarawak, which will now have an aircraft painted with the Negaraku Livery. The selected ATR 72-500, a turbo-prop aircraft, will proudly display the national flag and be flown across Sabah and Sarawak. It will help instill the spirit of nationalism, carrying with it the essence of the unique Malaysian values across this region.
Before I end my speech, I wish to once again express my gratitude to the MASwings management and staff for the effort displayed today. I also thank those present here today, including travel trade players, for supporting this programme and air travel in Sabah.
With these remarks, I am honoured to unveil the Negaraku Livery on the MASwings aircraft. Thank you.
