SPEECH FOR THE HONOURABLE CHIEF MINISTER, DATUK CHONG KAH KIAT AT THE LAUNCHING OF INSTITUT SINARAN AND 16TH TSHUNG TSIN OPEN DAY & EDUCATION FAIR 2002 ON JULY 14, 2002
It is a pleasure for me to be here this morning and to have the honour of officiating this morning’s events namely, the Institut Sinaran, the Pre-U Open Day and the Tshung Tsin Education Fair 2002. It is heartening to know that there are so many dedicated people who wish to improve the standard of education in the state and in doing so, help to contribute to the overall development of the state.
For the past 16 years Tshung Tsin Pre-U Centre has produced many professionals of high calibre who have returned to serve the state and country. Each year, I have observed that your students have done very well in all public examinations and various institutions of higher learning overseas. They have certainly brought honour to their families, school and country through their achievements and this has proven beyond doubt that Tshung Tsin Pre-U Centre’s philosophy of education through the provision of quality education and leadership training has indeed borne fruit.
The upgrading of the Centre into an institute is timely and certainly a step in the right direction as this will pave the way for higher quality education and leadership training through better resources and facilities. I wish to congratulate the Chairman and Executive members of the Board of Governors, the Principal and his team including administrative staff, tutors, teachers and students for bringing honour to the Centre through their efforts and dedication.
With its elevation to an institute, I hope the institute will pursue smart partnerships with other local and international institutes of higher learning through twinning programmes and credit transfers so that students will have better options in their pursuit of tertiary education. Twinning programmes, for instance, could help to reduce expenses on overseas tertiary education as students intending to enroll in the programmes of their choice overseas can now study locally for a specified period before completing their courses overseas. Institut Sinaran could do well to explore this win-win partnerships.
Your theme "A Brighter Future Through Quality Education" truly reflects your Institute’s philosophy as well as the dedication and determination of its leaders to bring the Institute to greater heights. I wish to assure everyone here that the State Government will do its utmost to support the noble cause of education. I welcome every effort to promote quality education for all, particularly in helping to shape the minds of future generations based on the concept of integral holistic human development.
I wish to commend the unceasing efforts and sacrifices of the Chairman and Members of the Kota Kinabalu Hakka Association, Executive Members of the School Board of Governors, the Principal and Vice-principal, the new Chief Executive Officer of Institut Sinaran, administrative staff, tutors and students of Institut Sinaran in making today the most significant day in the Institute’s history.
I thank all the representatives from the various universities and institutions of higher learning for their participation in this morning’s event and playing their meaningful role in promoting quality education for the good of the people, state and country.
With that, it is now my pleasure to officially launch Institut Sinaran and to declare open the Pre-U Open Day and Tshung Tsin Education Fair 2002. Thank you.
