Minister's Message

Kopi-vosian and greetings from Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
This year, Malaysia is proud to celebrate its golden anniversary of independence. In conjunction with this auspicious milestone, Malaysia welcomes the world with Visit Malaysia Year celebrations. Here in Sabah, it is Visit Sabah Year, every year! Do come, visit us.
The Sabah Ninth Malaysia Plan (2006-2010) identified tourism as an important economic growth sector, geared towards making Sabah a developed state in Malaysia by year 2015. To achieve this goal, my Ministry will work towards improving and increasing direct air accessibility to Sabah, and working closely with national and international carriers.
Development and construction of the new Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal 1 is on going. I am pleased that works are on schedule and we look forward to a brand new KKIA Terminal Building in 2008. The brand new Terminal 2 Building serving Low Cost Carrier (LCC) Air Asia is already fully operational.
The Ministry will continue to protect, preserve and maintain the Sabah Parks, Nature and Wildlife Reserves areas and the environment for the inheritance of the present and future generations. To protect the natural environment the Ministry will regulate land and industrial development and not cause pollution endangering people and the community, the wildlife, flora and plants.
I wish to personally invite you to visit Sabah, the land of eco treasures from mountain high to ocean deep; a land of warm, friendly people.
YB DATUK MASIDI MANJUN
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment
