The Artist

Datu Ruslan Sulai who hails from Kota Belud is a very versatile artist; not just in visual but also in literary and dramatic art forms. His interest and talents in all these artistic fields leaves him with very little time for painting activity which explains for his long absence in the local art scene. Ruslan is one of “POK” early protégés in portrait paintings in which he showed his early talent and creativity. His portraits showed expressive mood, rendered with spontaneous approach. However his later works concerned more and more with the portrayal of Bajau's patterns and colour, arranging them in poetic rhythm and tones on canvases. For his profession he is of course a well known national press photographer whose works often reflect a high degree of creative and artistic style.
