About The Artist

Patti Poon Hang Ying has a strong passion for art since her childhood, and always cherished a desire of going to Paris, Mecca of Art to learn more and extend her field of vision in the artistic territory. Her desire finally drove her to quit her job as an art teacher in a high school and started to pursue her dream. She went to Paris and studied Fine Arts in an art academy and was awarded the Degree of Fine Arts in 2001. Since then she has become a frequent visitor of the art museums and galleries in France.

Patti works in oil, water color and pastel. Her ways of expression are both figurative and non figurative (abstract). Although having worked in different media, Patti now primarily concentrates on pastels, enjoying the spontaneity and vivid colors of the medium. She is inspired by the works of Impressionist, but has developed her own genre.

The Artist's Statement

Pastel has been my favorite Painting medium in the last ten years. I am constantly amazed by what these sticks of pigment can do. The soft texture and the vibrant sparkling color transmiting directly from my hand onto the paper is so exciting and satistflying.

I developed my technique and genre for pastel paintings. They are done in a loose impressionistic manner, yet with the realism to retain their likeness. “I would like to paint the way a bird sings” ~ Claude Monet, is my favorite quote.

The choice of subject matter in my pastel paintings are different objects that surround us in our everyday lives. I hope the images hint the way of my self-expression, my passion for nature and my great feel of the beauty of our world that surrounds us all.
