  • NOTICE OF WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION (KOTA KINABALU)

    Water supply will be disturbed due to diverting works of 250mm & 300mm pipes at Intersection Indah Permai involved in the UMS / Sepanggar Road Upgrade Project from 22nd to 23rd March 2019 starting at 9.00 pm (22nd March) until 5.00am (23rd March) .

  • NOTICE OF WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION (MEMBAKUT)

    Water supply will be disrupted due to the conversion of Raw Water Pump No. 1 "Duty" for Operating New Plant Intake Operation to "Standby" Pump with Hanging Pump system due to the Pump "Duty" Intake New Intake Plant needs to be made more thorough inspection. The flow reading rate during the operation is low dramatically. The conversion works on 19 March 2019 (Tuesday) start at 9.00 am until work is done.

  • WATER SUPPLY DISCONNECTION EXERCISE NOTIFICATION DUE TO NON PAYMENT ON OVERDUE ARREARS

    Please be informed that JANS will carry out Water Supply Cut-off Operations due to outstanding water bill payment. Accordingly, JANS customers are advised to pay promptly and promptly overdue installment payments and current bills, to avoid difficulties arising from water supply cutting operations. The water supply cutting area is in Sandakan, Beluran and Kinabatangan districts from 18th till 29th March 2019.

  • NOTICE OF WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION (SIPITANG)

    Water supply will be disrupted due to the washing of Lovo and Buffle tanks at the Mesapol Water Treatment Plant on 20th March 2019 starting at 7.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Department Profile

BACKGROUND

Sabah State Water Department (JANS) is a State Government agency under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development. Presently, JANS operates under the state ordinance (Water Supply Enactment 2003) to supply treated water to the Sabah State community.

There are 55 water treatment plants operating throughout the state and an average of 1.05 billion liters of water pumped out everyday to meet the people’s demand. The water supply is about 99.8% to the urban community and 69% to the rural community while the length of pipe is up to 10,499 km. There are about 385,821 water consumers registered from the 9 Water Divisional Offices and 18 Water District offices throughout the State.

HISTORY

Sabah State Water Department was established in 1962 as a Hydraulic Division in the Sabah State Public Works Department (PWD). Under the PWD administration, the PWD Director was given full responsibility to act as the State Water Authority as stated in the Sabah Water Supply Ordinance 1961.

In April 1987, the State Government decided to form a State Water Department and place it under the purview of the Ministry of Works and Communication Sabah (now known as the Ministry of Infrastructure Development).

JANS was officially formed as a full fledge department in 1st January 1988 after the amendment of the Water Supply ordinance 1961 was approved by the Sabah State Assembly Hall.

The Director of Water Department is given full authority to perform his authority, functions and responsibility as a State Water Authority under Section 2, Water Supply Ordinance 1961. The authority commenced on 1st July 1987.
